Redland is an Independent School for girls between the ages of 3 and 18 with approximately 210 Juniors and 470 Seniors. Girls are given a broad and balanced education aimed at developing the ability and aptitude of each individual. The Nursery, Infant and Junior School is housed in buildings close to the main school. Science; and Music are an important part of the curriculum and there are specialist teachers in these subjects; computers are used in all areas of the curriculum. A variety of sport is taught and during the Easter holidays, older girls can go to Skern Lodge Outdoor Centre in Devon. The Junior School shares the facilities of the Senior School - the Gymnasium, Netball courts, Playing Fields and Art Studios. In September 1995 a Nursery Class started.
The Senior School is situated in a beautiful eighteenth-century mansion. There is a flourishing Art Department, a Computer Room, a Technology Workshop, a well equipped Home Economics unit, a fine gymnasium, with large well-designed stage, and fine well equipped laboratories and a new Music Suite. Wide reading and individual work is strongly encouraged and there is generous library provision. A new Library and Resource Centre was opened in March and a new Science Laboratory in September 1996.
Most girls take between nine or ten subjects in the GCSE Examinations. The Sixth Form have the exclusive use of a spacious Study Centre. Sixthformers do not wear uniform and are encouraged to develop their independence by taking responsibility thus helping them when they make the transition between school and university. Many educational trips are organised, both in England and abroad. The School takes part in the Young Enterprise Scheme and in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme and all girls have a period of work experience.
